Icon tutorial
(*crosses fingers and hopes that all the codes in this post will work*)
Hey guys! Here's my first attempt at an icon tutorial. Just gonna take you through what I like to do with my icons. The subject I will be using is one of the SHM, Kadaj, from Advent Children. Credits to
zangetsu for the picture. Now, on to the tutorial.
1. Create a new 100x100. Open up the image you want to use in the icon. I'm using:

2. Put your image into position on your icon, so that the main area of focus is in the top left corner.

3. Layer -> Duplicate. On the duplicated layer, sharpen, and set layer to either Screen (the one I used - dark image), Soft Light (for a lighter image), or you can experiment around with the modes.

4. Duplicate your duplicated layer, and resize it to fit in the right side of your icon. Then, cut away and delete the parts of your resized image that you don't want, so you can now see the first duplicate you made.

5. Now, select (Rectangular Marquee Tool) the resized layer.

6. Right-Click -> Fill -> Colour White, Opacity 100, Soft Light -> OK -> Deselect

7. Create a small rectangle on the visible line separating each image. Have the colour be something you plan on being your dominant colour, except make it a light colour. I used light grey.

Then, duplicate your resized layer
8. Move down your new duplicated layer, until it looks something like a filmstrip on the right side of your icon. Now, create another small rectangle (same colour) separating your "filmstrip" layers.

9. Now, open up a base you want to use. I'm using one from
yumei_k's baseset, Rustic. Change the bases' colour to a colour that would suit your icon best, and then set the base layer to a setting (I'm using Soft Light) that you like best. Add text, if you so desire, and you're done. Feel free to continue on, or to fiddle around with different settings and ideas. It's always good to add a little of yourself into the icon. XD

10. And just because I wanted to make it a good solid number, make sure to save it as a .jpg or whatever you normally save your icons as. Enjoy!
So, there ye' have it. My crappy icon tutorial. Totally copyrighted to me -
eatingsoup101. Oh, and feel free to take the Kadaj icon. =) Just make sure to credit.
Now, I've got a set for you. XD Not many in this batch, but oh well, I did a tutorial, as well, so it doesn't matter. Make sure to save, comment, and credit
eatingsoup101 if you use. Credits to
yumei_k for any brushes, bases, or tutorials she created. They helped very greatly with these icons.
